Times change, but music continues to remain one of the biggest universal interests. The challenge is – where and how to embark on the journey of musical education.

Of course, there are many reputable schools and academies here in Toronto that do a great service to their students and instructors. At the same time, picking the right music teacher (and music school) from among hundreds of existing ones is difficult task.

Think about it as an investment in your child’s future.  Not only will the right teacher introduce your child to the world of music, but they’ll boost their self-confidence, stir their creativity, and maximize their enjoyment throughout the learning process. Even if you have no musical background yourself, you can take the guesswork out of the selection process with this advice.
  1. When seeking a music teacher, word-of-mouth recommendations can’t be beat.
  2. Meet the music teacher in-person before making your final decision and ask about their credentials, educational merits, work history and approach to students.
  3. Ask the teacher if their students give recitals and performances.  If there is an upcoming recital, ask permission to attend.  This will allow you to evaluate the skill-level and overall happiness of their students.  At the recital, speak to the parents and students.  They’ll be able to provide an inside scoop into the teacher’s style, attitude, and abilities.
  4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, such as “do they allow parents to attend their children classes?”.
  5. And, please, always keep in mind that good musician isn’t always a good Teacher.

Check out videos of our studio recitals and as always, you are welcome to drop by, meet our teachers and tour our beautiful academy.

Good luck in your search and wishing you many musical successes!
